Bouncing Birthdays!

TheO has recently developed birthday issues. Any birthday party he attends, even his mothers, he will inevitably claim, at the top of his voice 'My Birthday!' He normally saves it for when the cake is making it's grand entrance with lighted candles. Small children pause to sing Happy Birthday, only then will the little lad pipe up with his fake claim. Even worse, he has been known to do the whole thing with his Maltese accent. It's horrifying! I'm convinced it's because we made such a poor effort for his 2nd.

The little lad wonders where Nana's clothes have gone

Even if Eliza's party was slightly marred, the good lady was smart enough to drop him with the outlaws for her birthday weekend, allowing a quick break at The Excelsior Hotel in Valletta. Capitalising on the use of the late check out and a massive pool, TheO and all turned out for a memorable days burning by the hotel pool! The boys confidence with swimming is exceptional. The little lad now enjoys 'jumping in' and 'pushing in' his Ma & Pa. He has even 'gone underwater' His jumping has even grown to encompass 'dry' jumping, and by that, I don't mean with the Cheerleaders! He is a keen regular at the Trampolining centre on the seafront, and yes, it is quite safe!!

From England to eternity!

It has been difficult to explain to a demanding infant quite why his blog has not been updated over the last few weeks. Avoiding the rigorous questioning from the little lad, I have managed to confuse him with stories of his recent trip over Europe. Tall tales of an overnight stop in Troyes! A fantastic old town with much history and a merry go-round that kept the little lad busy for nearly an hour, and it wasn't even working!

Car trouble, fortunately not on the Autostrada...

I also try a distracting account of arriving in Genevre, Switzerland, a place so amazing, they sell Beedies in petrol stations. I remind him of the massive food fair and live music, topped off with a trip on the big wheel. A birds eye view of lake Genevre and the fountain at night. He seems unforgiving!

My camping yarn from Lake Maggiore in Italy reminds him of cold water and Madeline's blow-up Jet Ski, yet when I mention the cabin outside Florence, I see him thinking of his mummies trip to Dolce & Gabbana, a look of fiscal concern comes over him.

Lake Maggiore, TheO is hiding underwater...

Despite the details of his overnight boat trip from Civitavecchia to Palermo, I can see that he is really not buying any of these distraction techniques. It's not until I mention daddies birthday at Isola Bella in Taormina and 'THAT' dinner at Casa Perrotta that things start to change. After tales of Etna's lava flowing from the crater, the young mans eyes glaze over, turning to me with Sugar like eyes, 'Daddy, you're fired!'

TheO at Isola Bella , again...

Holiday.

As in previous years, Summer has demanded a visit to the home counties for a fair share of wind and rain. It's like a kind of reverse holiday, but on this occasion, I have to go to work. TheO has met up with his Aunty & Uncle from Houston who have also craved some bad weather. TheO has also managed to catch up with his Cousin's Sam, Thomas & Lizzie. So far so good, and no major causalities!

The little lad has had many 'firsts' already on this visit. Meeting his new cousin Thomas Cole for the first time, his first haircut, plus a visit to the beach in Littlehampton (lots of rain here with possibly a force 9 gale) the young man has had a terrific time in Mum's garden and developed a bit of a thing with Dylan (the Corgi) and the football. He also attended his first music festival with a visit to Guilfest!

Recent developments include calling everyone 'his friends", bobbing his head to Jay Z and being a well behaved & perfect little lad.

2 9 10 4

Despite the books with caterpillars, the colour by numbers, the electronic computer thing, and even countless episodes of Sesame Street, the little lad is jumbling up his numbers. As he bounces on the bed, he counts and repeats the same four numbers, 2, 9, 10, 4. It's one number short of winning the Super Five lotto. Perhaps these numbers have greater meaning or have some importance. Perhaps a series of numbers that needs to be inputted on some other island, somewhere. At the risk of getting LOST in the plot, we have taken it as a good sign and like all great mathematicians, he is creative with numbers.

The young man is recovered from a tummy bug that saw him perform some new tricks, prompting just about everything within a five mile radius to be dry cleaned. Perhaps that's too much information. Now fighting fit and back to being a real handful. Currently watching The Incredibles and a series of short films by Dr Seuss.

Green Eggs and Ham, with a bit of TheO thrown in...

What Goes Over...
Monday, June 2, 2008, 11:19 AM
Most children can be temporarily pacified when given a toy of some description. A squeaky Rhino can provide hours of distraction. Some toys may even lead to obsessions and may never be prised from those tight little hands, not even for Jelly Tots. The little lad however is quite unique. Small toys that are supposed to create 'toddler relief' are flung in the most impossible of places. Currently, there is a small rubber 'Triceratops' lodged on the outer Bastions of the Citadel in Victoria, Gozo. A 'Sponge Bob Square Pants' ball is over the wall at Mdina, and there is a yellow 'Noddy' car at the bottom of the lift shaft of our residence. The problem is that as a frustrated 'Superhero Daddy' I am unable to approach these misplaced tests of fearless retrieval. The Bastions at Victoria and Mdina were built to keep the invading Turks out. Attempts to scale the walls will result in certain failure and, no doubt, a touch of boiling oil to boot. The lift shaft, with the scenario of a good crushing clear in my mind, represents a far more possible opportunity...

The wild child is talking much more and developing his sense of humour. He is a gold medal winner at his recent school sport Fun Day, (I think they may have all been given one) and able to tell the difference between yellow, orange and blue! (mmm) He has also started to say his name and age when asked and can name people in photographs. I'm reading 'Beers of the World' to him but don't think he really appreciates the gravitas!
